Philip Sheppard

Philip Sheppard is a film composer, solo cellist and a Professor at the Royal Academy of Music.

He regularly writes and plays with UNKLE and has written and arranged tracks with numerous rock musicians including Jeff Buckley, Jimmy Page, Suzanne Vega and David Bowie.

Films include In the Shadow of the Moon (which won numerous awards including the World Documentary Prize at Sundance), The Tillman Story, Henry Mind of a Tyrant for David Starkey’'s landmark C4 series, and the documentary feature Sergio (shortlisted for the Academy Awards).

He was MD for the London 2012 Handover Sequence at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Paralympics Closing Ceremonies. His score This is London featured the London Symphony Orchestra, Jimmy Page and Leona Lewis. He also re-wrote the UK National Anthem for the event.

Philip was awarded the BBC Sound Award for Best Music Production of the Year for his arranging and directing work on the Manchester Passion.

His stage works include the ballet Sacred Monsters for Sylvie Guillem and Akram Khan & In-I starring Juliette Binoche. He works regularly with with photographer Nick Knight as well as the late Alexander McQueen (for whom he wrote Sarabande in Black for the Academy of St Martin in the Fields).

Philip has just completed the PBS series God in America as well as a feature about the chess genius Bobby Fischer for HBO, Inside the Milky Way for National Geographic, as well as a Victorian steampunk show for the National Youth Theatre.
